David, Blinn Back on Top
Robert Sellers
AggieYell.com Texas A&M commit Logan David and his Blinn Community College teammates regained the number one spot in the Junior College ranks over the weekend by knocking off visiting Navarro Junior College who held the top spot coming into the game. In the match-up that was billed as the Battle of Champions with the last two JUCO National Champions (Blinn in 2009 and Navarro in 2010) Blinn prevailed 31-26 in front of a record crowd in Brenham.
"We were coming for that number one spot and we just got there," said David after the big win. "We are going to do everything we need to do the rest of the way to keep getting better. We are going to have to keep kicking and grinding in practice to prove that number one ranking."
David also talked about how close the team has become despite a lot of unfamiliarity coming into training camp.
"At the beginning of camp nobody knew each other," said the 6-foot-4, 345 tackle. "We didn't know the freshmen and the freshmen didn't know us. After three weeks of practices though, we all became a big family and that has helped us fight for each other on the field."
During the game the Blinn coaching staff did a good job of getting rest for their defensive linemen up front, something David knows helps late in the game.
"The rotation they use keeps us fresh longer so we can still get a good push late in games when it is important," he said. "I like that they keep a good rotation going so we can still be strong late in the games."
David has yet to attend one of Texas A&M's games this year due to his schedule but if he is only going to make one, he knows which one he wants it to be.
"I still haven't had the chance to make it to any of A&M's games this year," he said. "I was trying to go to the Oklahoma State game last week but it didn't work out. I'm going to make some but I hope I get to make it to the Texas game at the end of the season. That one is going to big."
Despite not making it in person he continues to keep up with his future team and knows that despite their struggles as of late, they will continue to work to fix mistakes to get back on track.
"I still make sure to watch them on tv every week, " said the massive lineman. "They did very well in the first half and took it to them (Arkansas) this week, but in the second half they let them get to them. They just have some things they have to make right on the defensive side of the ball and everything will get back on track."
David will get a little closer to his future home this week as Blinn will take on Tyler Junior College Saturday in Bryan's Merrill Green Stadium at 3:00 PM.
