LaRue is key for McClinton
Greg McClinton told Deacons Illustrated he may choose a school sometime this spring or summer.
The 6-foot-6, 185-pound Winston-Salem Prep small forward said Louisville, Wake Forest and Xavier are his top three, but that Missouri has begun to work its way into the mix.
Wake can only hope McClinton's relationship with Demon Deacon assistant coach Rusty LaRue can be its ace in the hole.
"I talked to Coach Rusty [LaRue] the other day on Twitter," McClinton said. "I talk to him every day on Twitter. I would love to be coached by Coach Rusty LaRue, because he coached me in high school [at Forsyth Country Day], so it plays a real big role."
Wake Forest assistant coach Jeff Battle watched McClinton in person multiple times Friday and Saturday [April 27 and 28] at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Va.
The Cardinals were also well-represented in Hampton as Louisville assistant coach Kevin Keatts was also in the audience.
"Coach [Rick] Pitino is a good coach and I have a good relationship with Coach Keatts, so that plays a big role for Louisville," McClinton said.
He has been to Louisville about three times, and has visited Xavier twice.
McClinton said he has to talk it over with his mom, but he may travel to Louisville, Missouri and Xavier this summer.
He added that he is working most on improving his jump-shot and strength.
"Things have been going good," McClinton said. "I've just been trying to stay in the gym, working out, so I can play good out here."
He averaged 16.4 points, eight rebounds, two steals, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks per game to lead Winston-Salem Prep to a 31-1 record and a state championship crown.
Rivals.com rates the rising senior as a three-star recruit and as the nation's No. 102 prospect.
