On Saturday night the No. 7 Pitt men's basketball team won its sixth-straight game, its fourth-straight Big East game, its 11th-straight home game, and its 16th game of the 2006-07 season as the Panthers (16-2, 4-0) beat conference foe Georgetown 74-69 at the Petersen Events Center. Junior forward Mike Cook scored a game-high 18 points to lead four Pitt players in double figures.

In a game that likely had an over/under somewhere in the neighborhood of 100, Pitt and Georgetown played incredibly effective and efficient offense. In a real rarity for a game featuring Pitt, both teams scored at a shimmering rate: the Hoyas shot 60.9% in the game, while the Panthers shot 59.6%.

"Who could have predicted that?," Jamie Dixon said of the shooting percentages. "I think we're pretty good offensively and they are, too. Everybody was talking about our defense, but I think both teams are pretty good on offense."

Perhaps the only number that was even more impressive than Pitt's shooting percentage was the Panthers' ratio of 22 assists on 28 baskets. That kind of passing and ball-sharing was unique, to be sure, but its uniqueness was not designed specifically for Saturday night's game.

"We've tried to play like that all year," Cook said. "We always want to share the ball and trust each other, so it's nothing out of the ordinary."
