Players ready to take next step
Last year the Jayhawks sat at home with six wins and watched other teams go bowling. That might have been the spark that triggered a good spring and off-season workouts that has the team hungry for more than just the standard six wins to get bowl eligible.
Two thing that have occurred in the Mangino era is that his teams have played hard and increased their numbers and intensity in summer workouts. This summer might have been the best yet.
"The strength and conditioning coaches tell us it is the best summer we have had in terms of the voluntary workouts," Mangino said. "During the summer there were kids in and out of the complex, excited about what guys were doing in the weight room and what they're doing in terms of running."
Brandon McAnderson has been through a lot of the summer workouts as he gets ready for his final season. This summer he has noticed a difference and players coming with more of an attitude.
"Summer workouts have been all about attitude," McAnderson said.
