October 28, 2009 Patterson to wide receiver? It looks like D.J. Beshears will make his second straight start at cornerback this week, which means sophomore Daymond Patterson will be relegated to the sidelines. "[Daymond] has handled it well," Mark Mangino said. "I think he and D.J. are competing at that position but they help one another. I believe they are a good support system for one another. Competition makes you better and we needed some at that position." So, any chance we see Patterson back at his original wide receiver position anytime soon? "You got the cart ahead of the horse there," Mangino said. "I am not ready for that." New Quarterback Texas Tech announced today that their starting quarterback for Saturday's game against Kansas would be redshirt freshman Seth Doege. This will be the Doege's first career start. "I think no matter who the quarterback is they do a lot of the same things," Mark Mangino said. "I don't know how big of a difference it makes from our perspective. Tharp update As the season progresses, freshman linebacker Huldon Tharp is seeing more time on the field. "We are bringing him along in steps," Mangino said. "He is getting better as the competition gets better. He understands things are going to get tougher as we go, but he is ready to meet those challenges." World Series Game 1 of the World Series tonight features the New York Yankees facing off against the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies. Mangino, who has always been a baseball fanatic, is staying mum on which team he wants to win. Kansas associate athletic director Chris Howard's brother, Ryan, is the superstar slugger for the Phillies. On the other side, the Yankees bench coach Rob Thomson played at Kansas in the early 1980's. "Rob is a good KU guy and he likes the football and basketball programs so we just have to be politically correct and take this one on the sideline," Mangino said. |
