December 7, 2012The plan all along was for Rodriguez Coleman to sign with Cincinnati after he graduated from Garden City Community College. But with recruiting those plans change all the time.
"During the season I still thought I was going to Cincinnati," Coleman said. "But I started to change my mind. I talked to my parents about and I decided to open up my recruiting. Once I did that some college coaches just started to come in."
On Wednesday the wide receiver got a visit from coaches at Kansas and Kansas State. Clint Bowen spent the afternoon in Garden City and convinced Coleman to take a visit to Lawrence.
"He told me they were going to offer and wanted me to visit," Coleman said. "He told me they thought I was a good athlete and liked my film. He said they wanted to offer from the first time they saw my film."
Coleman committed to Cincinnati when he was in high school. He left LaSalle High to attend Garden City. Since the word has leaked his recruiting is open he's started to get more calls.
"Kansas and Kansas State were here," he said. "Others have been calling. Indiana called this morning. I haven't had time to set many visits up. The only ones I have are Kansas and Kansas State. I might set up more."
Coleman will visit Manhattan next weekend. The Wildcats are also recruiting his teammate and quarterback Nick Marshall.
"He's a good friend of mine," Coleman said. "We've talked about going to the same college together. We will have to wait and see."
The next month could be busy since Coleman is now back on the recruiting market. He has time to make up his mind since he graduates in May.
"I'm going to be looking at schools and what they offer academically," he said. "I want to see the graduation rate of the players and look at the overall atmosphere. I want to see how many wide receivers are coming back on the roster."
