December 27, 2012We caught up with former Kansas wide receiver/cornerback Charles Gordon. He played at Kansas from 2002 to 2005.
Gordon on what he is doing now
I am back in California now. After KU I went up to the NFL to play with the Minnesota Vikings. I had fun and things were going well. I was on my way to getting some significant playing time.
I had that ACL injury on the punt return and it derailed my career. Since then I went back home back to my high school in Santa Monica in 2009 and coaching the skill positions like the receivers and also the special teams. We won back to back league championships so it's been great.
I feel like I learned a lot about the game being in the NFL and it's helped me in coaching. Just about different techniques and situational football. Coaching and getting my point across to my players now just comes natural to me.
Gordon on being back home
I left home in 2002 and came back in 2009. I spent a lot of time away from family and friends so it is just great to come back and see them. Just reliving our younger days and getting home cooked meals from my mom.
Gordon on what he wants to do in the future
I am really trying to get a D1 job. That's where I want to be. I just need a little more experience. D1 would be ideal. I have been calling around to see where I could get in and get a G.A. position. I may try to get in at KU to see if they have any openings.
Gordon on staying in touch with his old teammates and coaches
I have talked with my old position coach Earnest Collins. We talk regularly. I also still talk with my guys like Mark Simmons, Aqib Talib, Brandon Perkins and Kevin Kane.
Gordon on his favorite memories at KU
When we finally broke through and beat Nebraska. That was a big deal and also beating Kansas State after that long drought we had. Finally making it into the Fort Worth Bowl and winning a bowl game is at the top of my list too.
