September 16, 2009 Tight end Tim Biere missed last week's game because of an illness. He is questionable for this upcoming Saturday against Duke."He has been sick and I don't know if we are going to use him this week or not," Mark Mangino said. "He will be ready for sure for the Southern Miss game." Mangino also confirmed that center Jeremiah Hatch is better after missing the second half of last Saturday's game because he was sick. Hatch is expected to play this week. Mangino on Twitter? More and more college coaches are using Twitter to increase exposure for their school. In the Big 12 alone, coaches such as Nebraska's Bo Pelini and Missouri's Gary Pinkel have accounts. Just don't expect to see Mark Mangino tweeting anytime soon. "I thought about it and it left my mind really quickly," Mangino said of getting an account. "I know it is really big but I have a hard time believing that [coaches] that are busy and that have jobs are doing it themselves." Patterson moving forward Against UTEP, Daymond Patterson had 69 yards on 6 punt returns highlighted by a 49-yard run. Still, there were a few returns where Patterson lost yards trying to make the big play. So is Mangino okay with a player going backwards if it means the possibility of an even better reward? "No." Not that Mangino thinks it will be a problem in the future. "He understands what he has to do," Mangino said of Patterson. "He is anxious to make some plays. As you can see he can do some good things with the ball. We just have to play smart with the ball too." |
