It is looking like Coach Williams s going to pick up another championship ring! I don't see Michigan St even giving them a game!

Go Carolina Blue

Thanks for sharing that

I think MSU will give them a game. They're vastly better than anybody UNC has played thus far and the ONLY team that plays the style of basketball that gives Roy Fits. UNC has had a dream bracket this year.

dream bracket? I hope your not insutiating that its been easy (which I don't think you are). They have proved they deserve to be in the final game (& not just b/c they beat KU). Taking out two #1's (from the proverbial world's best conference) is darn impressive. Time will tell but how great would that be if they end up stomping UNC by 10 and the closest any team got to them all tourney was KU at five points. That'll make you go hmmmm....

I also like how the thread orginator throws ole Roy's name and championships together. I mean championship. I think UNC does prevail but lets not get carried away equating Roy and championships. I'm just hoping for a good game...

MRHusker,
You stated something about Roy picking up ANOTHER championship. FYI, in order to pick up ANOTHER championship, he needs to pick up his FIRST championship first. You might dispute it, but everyone knows that Roy, deep down in his heart knows that he is searchin for this first. Matt Doherty gets the credit for that "first" one.

Posted on 4/5 11:04 PM | IP: Logged

Roy gets credit for UNC's last NCAA title. Why wouldnt he get credit for it? Did he not coach the team?

Posted on 4/6 12:35 AM | IP: Logged

Yeah I'm no Roy fan, and I know he won with Doh's recruits, he still gets credit for the NC.

Posted on 4/6 8:32 AM | IP: Logged

Very well, you two might think he deserves credit, but I think it's safe to say that you are in the minority with that line of thinking. Most KU fans, along with Roy, believes that he is searching for his first. Sure, on paper, Roy has won it, BUT only on paper. We know, & more importantly Roy knows in his heart, that he is still waiting.

UNC has the talent edge in this one but don't take the home court advantage edge that MUS has lightly. 21 years ago a team from Larrytown was a #6 seed and used it to win it all. Secondly, there is no such thing a an easy bracket, it is what it is.

Posted on 4/6 12:20 PM | IP: Logged

I agree with all of this, and I'll throw in that MSU is coming off of back to back victories against 1 seeds, should be a great game.

Posted on 4/6 1:19 PM | IP: Logged

I think MSU could very well win this tonight. They have a decided home crt advantage plus Roy has his another "soft" tournament team. I could see MSU punching Roy's boys in the mouth much like KU did last yr & sending them home to another Roy tear-filled outburst. Now, as far as talent is concerned, UNC has the advantage, no question, BUT...a Roy-coached team is soft in the crunch time of the tourney.

If I show up to the final and pass the class without doing all of the work, it counts. But it also dosn't prove I have what it takes to pass the NEXT class. If you are looking to prove something, you should really be doing all the work.

So this isn't a counts/dosn't count situation. Its a matter of what you consider more meaningful, passing the class or learning. I have no doubt Roy will make the round trip someday.....but he hasn't yet and that much should be clear.

I'll take great players over a good coach any day.

Congrats Roy on wiining YOUR FIRST nc. Of course, let's not discuss the fact that you had the talent to go undefeated.

EekWith all the injuries we had this year...undefeated? Let's be real now, going undefeated is not easy to do. 2 titles in the last 4 years is pretty impressive!

Posted on 4/7 3:26 PM | IP: Logged

going undefeated is impressive for anybody to do on any level.

They win a national title, and you try to claim that they STILL should have done more? Winning a national title isn't enough, they SHOULD HAVE GONE undefeated?

Sounds like the crap that we hear from Kansas State and Missouri fans.

Roy had a boatload of talent this yr, he was supposed to win it. I really believe that if he would not have accomplished it this yr, he never would have done it. He would have forever been known as the Marv Levy or Bud Grant of college bball.

Now, if Roy really wants to impress people, lets see if he can do a good enough coaching job next season to win coach of the yr (like B.Self did) after losing all his talent? I really doubt it.

What Roy did this yr, is basically the same as what the over-rated Zen Master does currently with the Lakers & used to with the Bulls....win with stacked teams. If they really want to impress people, win wth less talent.

I will give o'l Royboy credit where it's due, he is a great recruiter.

In college hoops, you don't draft players or sign them as free agents, Irish; as a college coach, you are, ultimately, responsible for your own level of talent. Being a 'great recruiter', is, therefore, as much a part of a successful coach's job as motivating and drawing up X's and O's.

Yeah, Roy had a lot of talent on his 2009 team, but he went out and recruited that talent away from lots of other coaches and he got them to buy into his program. Yeah, he was expected to win and he did. Those are the toughest expectations there are. As Kansas fans, we deal with them all the time, do we not?

Yours is an extension of the Kansas State and Missouri mindset that's always applied to the Kansas program -- 'they (Kansas) have all that talent; they're supposed to win, so even when they do it's no big deal. Anything less than a national title for them squawks is an epic fail'.

That's just idiotic.

Hope Bill Self doesn't feel the need to 'win with less talent'. Get as much talent as you can, Bill. If you can continue to win with 'all that talent', you'll still impress me.

Posted on 4/8 10:14 PM | IP: Logged

well, think of all the great talented teams over the years. Now, when was the last time a team was undefeated national champs? I have a feeling that had UNC finished the season undefeated, than IF would have said that they should have been winning by a bigger margin, etc.

and really, are there still ku folk that hate Roy for going back to Lina? man, i don't think so. I understood his decision. things cahnge. there were family considerations. i get that. the one thing i didn't like was the timing of it all. we couldn't even enjoy our final 4 that year. but i blame unc for that, not Roy
