Could be a case of mistaken address on the part of the person/people that were there. Perhaps he/she/they thought someone else lived there. Could be a variety of things. But, seriously, at least put in a call to the police and perhaps they can send a patrol car through your complex tonight on the off chance you get a return visit. Don't call 911, but call the station directly and file a report or ask to have an officer drive through late tonight. Better safe than sorry.

Somthing similar happened to us once. Turned out the guy knocking with a flashlight was a policeman and they were looking for a shoplifter who had fled into the area. Don't know if they ever got him.

You call 911 and ask the police to send someone over to check it out. No reason for you to lose sleep over it that way.

or

Open the door, point the gun at the guy and scream..Make my day Motherf%$&^%!!

Well, considering the gun isn't loaded, that may be difficult to do....I'm not sure if I want to take that gamble wink

I think you're better off not having a gun than a gun with no bullets/shells!

Next time, call 911. Cops working that shift would be pumped to come check out the situation. I have few cop friends and they love the grave yard shift.

Errr....this was originally meant to be in the politics offtopic board.

Anyways, I don't have any shells for the shotgun, but I would think just the gun in itself would be enough to get any snoopers to run off once they saw it.

It really was bizarre though. I saw a couple of cigarette butts sitting next to the door the next morning. I'm sooooo freakin' confused though. Obviously, whoever it was came back after they left, but they never knocked on the door again. If they were wanting to break in, I wouldn't think they would knock(even if it was an aggressive knock), or if they wanted to knock, you would think they'd break in after they realize there is no answer(and thus nobody home). But why would they stick around? I only know three people in town who know where I live, and they aren't the type to stop by at 3:45am and they'd call my phone. Most of my friends live in KC or they've graduated and moved elsewhere. Strange night....the wife is looking up renter's insurance today ;)
