You could also just show up on game day and try to get one off a scalper.
I'm sorry, but I find this practice ridiculous. Even our pathetic basketball program has never done that to the good teams (including KU) that come to Lincoln. I know Nebraska even sets aside a limited amount of seats for the opponents fans in Memorial Stadium. And that's a place that this year will hit it's 300th consecutive sellout. Not slamming you guys as fans, but this is a really weak ploy, and not very sportsmanlike if you ask me, which you didn't.
There will be a section set aside for Nebraska fans as well. The school always sells a portion through Nebraska.
As for the practice itself, it's not ridiculous. Nebraska fans have been known to buy freakin' season tickets at other schools just to obtain a ticket to an away game. If the AD wants to benefit from the stupidity of those fans, while keeping opposing fan #s lower, then all the more power to them. It's a smart strategy.
Then you have the fact that you can't compare basketball to football. With basketball there are 30+ games. Fans aren't going to generally flood an opposing team's venue, due to the large # of away games. Also, the max attendance is too dissimilar, making ticket availability different. It's not really comparable. One game also doesn't ruin a season in basketball. You can afford a few losses here and there. In football an entire season can hinge on one game, this one which may be for the North. You want every advantage you can get, and assuring that 90% of the fans in the stadium are KU fans is a good advantage to get, and there's definitely nothing wrong with the AD trying to capitalize on this.
As for your "pathetic" basketball program never doing such a thing, I call BS. It's not uncommon for opposing venues to sell tickets at elevated prices to keep KU fans away, and/or to practically give the tickets away to their own fans in order to fill their venues for the upset. It seems every other weekend we're playing in a "blac-kout", "white-out", "purple-out", etc.
