Iowa emerges as the favorite for Texas duo

Texas wide receivers JaCorey Shepherd and Jonathan Lee got to know one another a year ago on the summer camp circuit. As the recruiting process went along, the two players from the Dallas area found themselves running into each other at different stops and eventually just decided to make many of their visits together. This past weekend, the duo drove up to Iowa City for a closer look at a program that has offered both of them, the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Iowa was the first school to offer Shepherd, who caught 46 passes for 672 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior at Horn High School in Mesquite, TX. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver has since added an offer from Wyoming and says Vanderbilt is getting close as well. While he did not know much about the Hawkeyes when he first started hearing from them in February, now the Texas native is pretty comfortable with the Big Ten school.

The wide receiver position is definitely a priority for the Iowa coaching staff in this recruiting class, which is something they reiterated to Shepherd during his stay in Iowa City this past weekend.

Like Shepherd, Lee is the type of receiver that many feel can make an impact early in college. Currently, the 6-foot-2, 191-pounder from Allen, TX, holds 14 scholarship offers, which includes schools such as Nebraska, Arkansas, Illinois, Louisville, Purdue, Tulsa, Baylor, and most recently, Minnesota. During the Iowa visit, Lee was also impressed with the chance for early playing time with the Hawkeyes.
