Tide offers Florida OL

Pensacola (FL) Pine Forest offensive lineman Colby Watson has flown under the radar thus far on the recruiting scene despite an impressive 6-foot-6, 320-pound build and a knack for dominating his competition at the line of scrimmage, but a recent offer from the defending national champions could change that quickly. Alabama became the first offer on the board for Watson and has made a good impression to date on the massive interior lineman.

"Alabama has definitely shown me more attention than anyone else so far," Watson said. "The coaches seem like really nice guys, and they definitely know what they're talking about when it comes to football. I feel like they could really help me improve a lot as a player and they've shown already that they can do that for players at pretty much every position."

Watson's high school is the alma mater of recent Alabama star Mike Johnson, who earned All-America honors at guard for the Tide last season. Watson said he's well aware of the connection between his school and the Crimson Tide.

"I've met Mike a couple of times and his mom is actually a teacher at our high school so I've met her a few times as well. They are nice folks and they only have good things to say about Alabama and Coach Saban."

While there are no immediate plans for a visit this fall, Watson said he will try to schedule something for later in the season.

"I'm pretty sure that I'll be going to an Alabama game this season at some point. I would like to get a chance to see them play in person. From what I've seen so far, they are a physical, hard-nosed team on offense that really relies on the line to create opportunities for their backs."

"Recruiting-wise, It's still pretty early right now so my plan is to wait for a while and just see how things develop. I'm not in a hurry to commit anywhere so I'm going to take my time and allow things to play out."

In the meantime, Watson is preparing to kick off his junior season tonight.

"We've had a couple of preseason games but our first real game is tomorrow night, Our team is looking really good so far. We've got a lot of our big playmakers from last year coming back. We've got experience and we're carrying a lot over from last year on both sides of the ball."
