2013 QB on Black Knights' radar

And there is a quarterback who, while only a sophomore, is beginning to sort out who and where he might like to go, but right now the USMA is no match for his dream school.

Jihad Vercher's dream is to play football for LSU. The problem for him, however, is he hasn't heard a word from the school.

The junior to be also said from his home in Los Angeles that he is considering both Army and Navy, where he would like to study architectural engineering.

"I've heard from Army," says Vercher. "They are showing their interest in me as scholar-athlete. West Point is a very discipline school and well organized … and that's what I'm looking for in a school.

A mature sixteen, he busted onto the scene last season in his first start at quarterback, throwing for 4 touchdowns and 287 yards while completing 12 of 15 passes. He finished his sophomore season with 1,937 yards and 26 TDs.

Although listed as a pro-style quarterback, he also ran for a couple of hundred yards in his team's west coast offense.

At 6-foot-0, 185, he inherited his athleticism from his parents. His father, Montrail, played wide receiver in college. His mom ran track in high school and college.

"His first choice is LSU,'' the father said, "but he watched a lot of football on TV this past year and liked Army. He always roots for the underdog. I would love to take him on a visit there.''

"The whole staff and program is very organized,'' Jihad said. "And it's disciplined. I won't have to worry about any outside problems.

"No matter where I go,'' he added, "education is first, regardless.''
As much as Vercher is focused on recruiting, the junior to be still has plenty of high school football left and is looking to rebound from the 2010 season.

"We originally went 8-2, but we were disqualified because they said we had an ineligible player on our team, but. I feel good about this season."

When it comes to attending summer camps and combines, Vercher remains undecided, but indicated that he has been invited to several Junior Days, such Notre Dame, Duke, Penn and Princeton.

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow the Jihad Vercher's recruiting and upcoming season.
