Humes holding his own

Spain Park (Ala.) three-star cornerback Chris Humes has picked up some nice offers already in the recruiting process.

Auburn, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, South Alabama and UAB have all extended scholarships to the 6-foot-1, 195-pouder but right now Humes is not ready to name a leader or begin narrowing things down.

Humes had an opportunity to watch two of those schools go head-to-head last week on television with Auburn edging Mississippi State 41-34 on the final play.

The Bulldogs are one of the teams after Humes the hardest.

"I really like Mississippi State and am hearing a lot from them," Humes said. "I caught bits and pieces of their game against Auburn. I've been hearing from some people about what happened on the goal line. I'm sure the coaches are going to make those corrections."

So far Humes has only taken in one game in person as he traveled to Tuscaloosa for Alabama's season opener.

"I went to the Alabama-Kent State game," Humes said. "I loved the atmosphere there. I haven't got an offer from Alabama but it could be any day now. They said they really like me."

Humes does not have a timetable on making a decision but plans to cut his list down before making a final decision.

Spain Park bounced back from a loss to crosstown rival Hoover with a win over Homewood last week upping their record to 2-1 on the year.

"The season is going good," Humes said. "We're 2-1 right now. Our last game against Homewood was intense. This week we've got to go to Oak Mountain and play at their place so it'll be tougher at their home field. I know they are going to bring their A-game so we've got to bring our A-game."

Humes mentioned that teams have stayed away from his side of the field in the first three games but is still averaging 8.5 tackles a game and has broken up seven passes already.

Humes is rated the No. 26 prospect in the state of Alabama.
