Huhn Has Cougar Ties

As the Houston Cougars continue to zero in on their targets for the class of 2013 several names will start to emerge from their wish list. One such player is Cibolo (TX) Steele safety Erik Huhn.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety was a key figure in the Steele defensive backfield last year and he's getting a lot of interest early on.

"Recruiting is going real well right now," the talented defender said. "I've got about seven offers out right now and it's been going good. I have offers from UTSA, Baylor, Duke, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas Tech and Houston."

Huhn is still taking it all in, but has already been to a handful of junior days for some top programs.

"I've been to junior days for Oklahoma, Texas, TCU and Baylor," the speedy safety said. "I really liked them all, every camp has had their high points and the football everywhere is great."

While he hasn't visited Houston yet, Huhn has plans to visit the campus at some point and may be getting a little nudge towards Houston from those close to him.

"They're definitely a serious player," Huhn said of Houston. "Both of my parents graduated from there, so I know the area pretty well and I like to go down there and my parents are big Cougar fans, they love Houston."

Cibolo Steele has been a prominent power in Texas the last several seasons, they've made the last two state finals and Huhn expects nothing but the same for his senior season.

"We've been to the state game the last two years," he said. "We won it my sophomore year and then we got runner-up this year and we're expecting the same thing this year, we're going to have a really good team and we expect to be in the same position we were this year except to win it."

With several top offers from the state of Texas it could be quite the battle for Huhn's services, but he insists it's wide open at this point but he hopes to have a decision in the near future.

"I'm just kind of taking it all in," he added. "It's completely open, I don't have any favorites right now. I'm probably going to commit before my senior season, I'll take my time and think about it over the summer and make my decision at the end of summer.

With Huhn's ties to the University of Houston and his interest in the program, he could be an interesting name for Houston fans to keep an eye on for the class of 2013.
