Cole Carter makes a move along the OL

Standing 6-foot-6 and 285 pounds, Caledonia (Miss.) junior Cole Carter is being recruited mostly as an offensive tackle for the next level. But so far this spring, Carter finds himself on the edge of the offensive line albeit at a different spot.

"We started spring practice last Monday and it's going good so far," said Carter. "I am playing tight end and also starting at defensive tackle. Schools are still recruiting me as a left tackle but my team needs me at tight end this year.

"Probably my biggest thing this spring is that I am trying to get my speed better and getting my strength up there. I also have to get my techniques down pat and a lot of the blocking techniques are the same at tackle and tight end."

Earlier this year, Carter took an unofficial visit to Alabama and a few unofficial visits to Mississippi State. And like most of his early recruitment, those two SEC West schools are showing him the most interest.

"I am also getting letters from Tennessee, Florida and some from Texas," said Carter. "But I would say Mississippi State and Alabama are showing me the most interest and both are coming to see me this spring."

Carter was able to attend spring games at both Mississippi State and Alabama and talked of the positives he saw.

"It was pretty good at Alabama and I enjoyed their spring game," said Carter. "Their coaches were telling me to make sure I stayed in the weight room and that they looked forward to seeing me this spring.

"Mississippi State was also a good experience and both of those schools have solid programs. At Mississippi State's spring game, I liked seeing their high-paced offense. I also like to run block so I like they way they handle their running game."

Concerning summer camps, Carter said he's been invited to camps at MSU and Alabama, and may also visit another SEC camp.

"I am planning to go to Mississippi State's camp and they've already sent me a lot of information about their camp," said Carter. "Their coaches said they want to see me again and they said by my senior year, I should have an offer on the table. Alabama said they want to see me at camp and also see how I progress my senior year. So I am going to those two camps and I am also going to see if I can make it to Florida's camp."
