JUCO LB Kenny Flowers commits
Hutchinson Community College (Kan.) linebacker Kenny Flowers has committed to Auburn.
Flowers is the nation's No. 61 overall JUCO prospect and No. 9-ranked JUCO linebacker.
"We've been talking about it for several days," Hutchinson coach Rion Rhoades said. "There were a number of things he liked about Auburn. The tradition of Auburn history and football -- Auburn is a national brand and that helped. It's within two hours of his home and his family can see him on a regular basis.
"With Coach (Gus) Malzahn and the new crew, there's a lot of excitement and promise for the future. Kenny was excited to be a part of that. He hit it off real well with Coach (Ellis) Johnson."
Flowers, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, is originally from Parkview in Lilburn, Ga. He signed with Texas A&M in December and is now a May graduate. He officially visited Auburn last weekend. Flowers joins fellow Hutchinson teammates Ben Bradley and Devonte Danzey, who have already signed with Auburn.
"They were all very independent. They are friends and went through a season together, they were all independent decisions and I think they all just felt like Auburn was the right place for them," Rhoades said.
Flowers had 95 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss as a redshirt freshman at Hutchinson. He's expected to play weakside linebacker at Auburn. Flowers will have three years of eligibility left. Flowers is a strong, physical player, once cleaning 415-pounds.
"He's got some freakish strength and ability," Rhoades said. "He could bench and clean over 400 pounds as a freshman. He's very fast, great closing speed. He's got instincts that will develop. Kenny is a smart player and has a good football IQ."
Flowers will enroll at Auburn in May.
