A Closer Look At The Oregon State Beavers

No. 10 ranked Kansas (5-1) will tangle with Oregon State (4-1) for the first time on Friday night.

Located in Corvallis, Ore., with an enrollment of 23,761, at press time, Oregon State is 4-1 on the season and brings a two-game winning streak after defeating Montana State 78-65 on Nov. 25. The Beavers defeated Purdue in the 2K Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y. Oregon State is coached by Craig Robinson who is 68-72 in his fifth season at OSU and 98-100 in his seventh season overall.
Oregon State averages 75.8 points and gives up 66.6 for a +9.2 scoring margin. The Beavers also win the rebound battles with a +7.2 margin. Additionally, OSU makes 5.8 three-point field goals and 5.6 blocks per game. Junior guard Ahmad Starks leads Oregon State in scoring at 14.6 points per contest. He leads the team with 12 three-pointers, seven steals and is tied with senior forward/center Joe Burton for the team lead with 13 assists. Burton averages 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest.
Junior forward Devon Collier comes off the bench and is second on the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game. Junior guard Roberto Nelson scores 10.8 points per outing and is second on the team with seven three-point field goals. Rounding out the OSU starters are sophomore forward Eric Moreland (8.4 ppg, a team-best 10.4 rpg) and freshman forward Jarmal Reid (1.2 ppg, 1.0 rpg).
Reid replaces senior center Angus Brandt (11.3 ppg, 8.5 rpg) who tore his ACL in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season. Sophomore guard Challe Barton (2.2 ppg, 13.6 minutes per game) is another regular who averages 13.6 minutes per contest for the Beavers.
Kansas vs. Oregon State: The Series
Kansas and Oregon State are meeting for the first time in men's basketball. The Beavers are the second Pac-12 team KU have faced this season. The Jayhawks defeated Washington State 78-41 on Nov. 19 in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. Kansas will play its third Pac-12 team in five games when it hosts Colorado on Dec. 8. In the Bill Self-era, Kansas is 14-4 against Pac-12 schools and has won the last nine meetings against the league's opponents. In 2010-11, KU defeated four Pac-12 teams.
