Aldrich wins Player of the Week award

LaceDarius Dunn (Baylor) and Cole Aldrich (Kansas) earned the Phillips 66 Big 12 Players of the Week, while Ekpe Udoh (Baylor) and Marquis Gilstrap (Iowa State) were selected as the Rookies of the Week, for games of Dec. 28 - Jan. 3 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference.
Dunn garnered his third career award and Aldrich was recognized for the first time. It is the second rookie honor for Udoh and third for Gilstrap.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:
LaceDarius Dunn, Baylor, G, Jr., 6-4, 205, Monroe, La./Excelsior Christian School:
Dunn led Baylor in scoring in road victories over Arkansas (70-47) and South Carolina (85-74), averaging 20.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. In two outings, he shot 48.1 percent (13-of-27) from the floor, 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from beyond the arc and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the free throw line. The junior guard recorded a game-high 19 points against the Razorbacks. He followed with a game-high 21 points and a season-best seven rebounds versus the Gamecocks. Dunn has 19 games with 20 points or more in his career.
Cole Aldrich, Kansas, C, Jr., 6-11, 245, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson:
Aldrich helped No. 1 Kansas remain undefeated against Belmont (81-51) and at No. 18 Temple (84-52). He averaged 10.5 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the field. The junior center posted his fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds versus Belmont and 10 points and 10 rebounds at Temple. Aldrich also averaged 4.5 blocked shots, including a season-high six versus the Bruins. He has led KU in rebounding 10 of 13 games this season.
ROOKIES OF THE WEEK:
Ekpe Udoh, Baylor, F/C, Jr., 6-10, 240, Edmond, Okla./Santa Fe/Michigan:
Udoh also contributed to Baylor's double-digit victories, averaging 10.0 points, 17.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 5.0 blocks. Against Arkansas, he scored eight points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked eight shots. He followed that outing with 12 points and a career-high 20 boards at South Carolina. The 20 rebounds were the most by a Big 12 player this year. Udoh has recorded eight 10-plus rebounding efforts and seven double-doubles this season and leads the Bears with 11.1 boards and 4.1 blocked shots per game.
Marquis Gilstrap, Iowa State, F, Sr., 6-7, 215, Covington, Ga./East Side/Gulf Coast CC [Fla.]:
Gilstrap received his third rookie award this season after helping Iowa State pull out an 82-75 double-overtime win against Houston, scoring eight of the Cyclones' 13 points in the second extra period. The senior forward finished the game with 17 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots. He shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the floor with three free throws. Gilstrap has posted double- figure scoring outputs in 12 of 13 games in 2009-10.
