Cole Aldrich (Kansas) and Tommy Mason-Griffin (Oklahoma) have been chosen as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week for games of Jan. 25-31 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference.

Aldrich earns his second career honor (both this season), while Mason-Griffin is recognized for the first time.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Cole Aldrich, Kansas, C, Jr., 6-11, 245, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson

Aldrich averaged a double-double (15.0 points, 13.5 rebounds) to help the Jayhawks win two rivalry games last week. The junior center posted 12 points and 16 rebounds in an 84-65 win over Missouri. He followed that performance with 18 points and 11 boards as KU recorded an 81-79 overtime victory at Kansas State. In two games, he shot 50 percent (9-of-18) and made 12-of-18 from the free throw line. Aldrich also had 10 blocks, including a season-high seven versus Mizzou. He has recorded double-doubles in each of his last three outings and has nine overall this season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:

Tommy Mason-Griffin, Oklahoma, G, Fr., 5-11, 203, Houston, Texas/James Madison

Mason-Griffin becomes the first Oklahoma player to win a weekly honor this year after the Sooners had a 1-1 week. The freshman guard averaged 23.5 points and 5.0 assists while shooting 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field. He also connected on 7-of-15 (.467) from 3-point range and made 8-of-9 (.889) from the charity stripe. In an 89-84 win over Iowa State, he scored a career-high 38 points, the most by any Big 12 player this season. It was the highest total by an OU freshman since 1983 (Wayman Tisdale) and also the most ever by a freshman guard at Oklahoma. Mason-Griffin is averaging 12.7 points in 2009-10 and is fourth in the Big 12 in assists with 4.6 per game.
