Carson Bruhn has Kansas in his top three

Carson Bruhn announced a top three and the Jayhawks made his list. Bruhn, a tight end from Sioux Center (Iowa) has received a lot of division one interest from several coaches.

On Friday he revealed his top three of Kansas, Minnesota and Kansas State.

Bruhn has been to Lawrence several times since last fall including a game and a Junior Day event.

“When we went for a game, it was great to see the community supporting the team,” Bruhn said. “Every time I've been there, the coaching staff and recruiting staff was amazing and very welcoming.”

He is the top-rated tight end prospect in Iowa and holds offers from schools in the Big 12, SEC and Big 10. His film caught the attention of Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki who also coaches the tight ends.

“Coach K is a great coach and an even better person,” Bruhn said. “You know tight ends are important when the OC is also the tight ends coach.”

Kotelnicki has spent a lot of time with Bruhn on his unofficial visits since he is the position coach. But there are several coaches on staff who have had a hand in the relationship-building process.

“I'm pretty sure I have like every offensive coach's number and some defensive staff,” he said. “It's very obvious they want to form a relationship with me during this recruitment process.”

Bruhn’s most recent trip to Kansas came last weekend where he watched the team go through spring football practice. He was also able see them practice preparing for the bowl game.

“The practices were great,” he said. “Seeing the coaches interact with players was awesome to see, and the practices were all about efficiency and getting stuff done.”

Staying within driving distance and picking a good program are two of the factors that led Bruhn to naming his top three.

“K-State and Minnesota made my top schools because of the academics and distance from home,” Bruhn said. “They are both within five hours and it's important to my family that they can come watch. It's also apparent that those two programs have a culture of winning and developing players.”

Bruhn is a four-sport athlete for Sioux Center. In baseball he was an all-conference pitcher and plays basketball and track.

When it comes to choosing a school the bond with the coaching staff will play a major along with his major of Chemical/Environmental Engineering.

“Relationships with coaches and strength and conditioning staff,” Bruhn said. “It's important that I can create a relationship with them. Another thing is the importance of academics and having the major I'm looking for.”
