On the day when high school football players get to enjoy their signing day ceremony Corione Harris is one step ahead of them.

The Jayhawks top-ranked signee in the class went through signing day in December and shortly after packed his bags and headed to Lawrence.

Harris, rated the nation’s 15th best cornerback, graduated from high school early and is taking of the opportunity to get a head start. He’s not taking it lightly.

“The only thing on my mind is focusing on my game and classes,” Harris said. “I have to be ready to ball because it is a dog eat dog environment. I’m not going to be the one that’s losing.”

One thing Harris is looking forward to is playing in the same secondary again with Mike Lee. The two were defensive back partners at Landry-Walker.

Since Kansas assistant Tony Hull arrived the Jayhawks have added several players from Louisiana. Harris hope to see the trend continue.

“I would love to see the pipeline continue,” Harris said of the Louisiana recruits. “But I also want what’s best for them.”

Harris could easily be back home experiencing signing day with his friends but he wants to get moving on his career at Kansas.

“I’m going to take it one game at a time,” he said. “I just want to help this program turn around.”
