Three-star defensive end Daniel Carson was in Lawrence for Junior Day with the Kansas Jayhawks. The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder from Independence (MO) William Chrisman is the No. 6 player in the Show Me State, and the No. 17 strongside defensive end in the nation for 2018. With six Division I offers to his credit, this was Carson’s first time back on campus since the 2016 season ended.

“I thought it was a great facility,” Carson said of the newly-completed renovations to the Anderson Family Football Complex. “And it was very cool to see the basketball team compete today, even though it was a tough loss at home.”

“I thought the lockers were maybe the coolest part of the Junior Day,” he continued. “It was cool to see the technology and creativity put into making the locker room look as great as it does.”

Nearly every recruit that has visited Mount Oread over the past month has talked about the additions to the Jayhawks locker room. The Chrisman DE said the prospects on hand for the program’s first junior day of 2017 were no different.

“I felt that all the recruits would agree,” Carson said of the visitors. “The locker rooms and the basketball game was the best parts. The program is rebuilding a winning tradition at KU, and some of the recruits showed that by committing today.”

KU was the first program to offer Carson when they hosted him for an unofficial visit in October. The Chrisman DE was part of a wave of early offers to 2018 prospects in Kansas City. Head coach David Beaty’s staff made it clear on Saturday they believe those recruits could play key roles in the rebuilding effort at KU.

“I spent time in Coach Beaty and Coach Slater’s offices,” he said of his time with the coaching staff. “I also had a few conversations with Coach Bradford. We talked about my future at KU, if I wanted it. Talked about how much they wanted me, and how much that they need kids like me, Daniel Parker, Khristian Boyd, and Cartez Crook-Jones.”

Carson has several other visits on the calendar for the new few months. He will be at Missouri today, then travel to Iowa State on February 25th, and Kansas State March 4th. Though he says he doesn’t have any favorites at this point in his recruitment, he can picture himself in Lawrence.

“I could see myself playing in red and blue,” Carson said of the Jayhawks. “I honestly don’t have rankings for any of the colleges that offer me. I like to keep my recruitment joyful and exciting.”
