De Sousa set to report to KU on December 26

Silvio De Sousa, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound power forward from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., is on the move. What many Kansas fans were hoping would happen became a reality on Friday night when Bill Self announced that De Sousa, the No. 25 ranked player in the 2018 class, was set to arrive in Lawrence on December 26.

“Silvio has completed the required coursework that will enable him to graduate and report to KU,” said Self on Friday night. “We are now working through the NCAA’s amateurism process and hope to have him certified as soon as possible for game competition. He is eligible to practice immediately and will report on the 26th.”

De Sousa, a five-star prospect, should provide an immediate impact once he receives full clearance from the NCAA. Long and athletic, De Sousa has the ability to greatly impact the game on both ends of the court.

With Billy Preston still waiting to make his debut, Kansas is extremely thin upfront and, not surprisingly, will gladly welcome De Sousa with open arms.

Should Kansas add both Preston and De Sousa in the near future, the Jayhawks would have very few weaknesses and would emerge as a legitimate national championship contender.

Recently, Corey Evans had this to say about De Sousa.

What does DeSousa bring to the floor? He is a walking double-double that rebounds, finishes and runs the floor. His ball skills have rapidly improved and so has the range and consistency on his 17-foot jumper, a big man that can play alongside Udoka Azubuike but also a small ball 5-man.
