Kansas assistant Todd Bradford’s consistency has paid off recruiting Akayleb Evans. The defensive back from McKinney (Tex) is fresh off his visit to Lawrence with his family.

“It was really surprising how big the campus was,” Evans said. “I really enjoyed it. It was an experience that I needed to see and my family enjoyed it too.”

When asked about what stood out Evans liked how all of the coaches showed an interest in him.

“I liked how all of the coaches treated me,” he said. “Even if the coaches weren’t on the defensive side they interacted with me and tried to get to know me a little bit more. I just felt close with them. The campus was beautiful and more than I expected.”

Bradford joined the Kansas staff before spring football. He has been steady recruiting Evans from the start and that is one of the reasons he made the trip to Kansas.

“Coach Bradford has been doing a great job,” Evans said. “Since he started recruiting me he has been consistent and we have talked every week. That has helped a lot. It has shown he has an interest in me. Spending more time with him on the visit I can tell he is the type of person who will lead you down the right path.”

Evan’s parents Nita and Calvin accompanied him on the visit. He said his parents liked what they saw from the coaches and the University. They all met with head coach David Beaty.

“Some head coaches will sit down with you and not tell you the truth but he was 100 percent straight with me,” Evans said. “I liked what he has to say. I like how he treats the players and how the system is at Kansas.”

Last week Evans camped at Tulsa and said there is a chance he could visit Iowa State next week. For now the Jayhawks are sitting in a good spot.

“I’m trying to make my decision before the end of the summer. I would say there is a window in the next month I would like to make the decision. Right now Kansas is a good look.”
