Foster Dixson believes Kansas coaches will develop him

Kansas defensive line coach Jesse Williams identified Foster Dixson earlier in the year and was consistent recruiting him through the season.

About a month ago Williams and defensive coordinator Clint Bowen visited Dixson. Right after that they offered him a scholarship and set him up on a visit to Kansas.

“Kansas is just a beautiful town,” Dixson said. “I can tell there is a great atmosphere and the fans are great. When I saw the locker room it blew my mind because I’ve never seen any facilities look like that. They had a lot of gear. The stadium was amazing and the coaches are great.”

Dixson already knew Williams and Bowen and during his official visit he got to meet head coach David Beaty.

“I knew the defensive coordinator and Coach Williams,” he said. “Then I met the head coach and he is a great guy and I really respect him.”

When Dixson met with Beaty he told the Jayhawks head coach he wanted to be a part of the program.

“I really love it out here and I committed,” Dixson said. “We talked and he asked me how my visit and I said it was great. He asked what he can do to make me feel more at home. He asked me about my thoughts and I told him I was going to commit. He yelled and got up and gave me a hug. It was great.”

The coaches showed the recruits some of the new facilities planned in the future including the indoor which is scheduled to start next month. They also got to see the new living area for the football players that is under construction.

“They’re building some new dorms that are really nice,” Dixson said. “We had to put on hard hats and they took us in there and that was a good experience. We were walking through the construction site and saw one of the rooms and what it would look like when they’re finished. They were amazing. I am coming from L.A. and those kind of rooms would go for at least $1400 a month.”

During the visit Dixson was hosted by Kansas defensive tackle J.J. Holmes.

“He is a really good guy and I liked him,” Dixson said. “It is like a family environment and nothing is given to you. You have to earn it all. So when I get out there and join the team I know I have to earn my keep. I just want to help the team out and help turn the program around.”

Dixson didn’t start playing football until his junior year in high school. This season he had 40 tackles and nine tackles for a loss and was voted a first team, all conference selection. He will sign on Dec. 20 and arrive in Lawrence in January to start school.

“I feel amazing,” Dixson said after he committed. “I feel they can help step my game up and make me the player that I need to be. I think they can get me ready for the next level. But first I hope that I can help win games and championships.”
