Four-star big man trims list

Karviar Shepherd, one of the top players in the 2013 class, just informed Jayhawk Slant that he's trimmed his list of schools.
Karvier Shepherd, the 6-foot-10, 225-pound center from Grace Prep in Arlington, Texas, is certainly no stranger to the recruiting process.

With serious interest from the likes of UCLA, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Kansas, Louisville, Florida State, Gonzaga, Georgetown, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Baylor, Tulsa, Georgia Tech, Harvard, Marquette, Tennessee, North Texas, USC and others, Shepherd, the No. 34 ranked player in the class, long ago emerged as a high-major prospect.
With another successful spring and summer running with Urban DFW, coached by Jazzy Hartwell, Shepherd, with his senior year approaching, recently decided to narrow his list of schools.
On Tuesday afternoon, Shepherd spoke to Jayhawk Slant about his
"I've narrowed my list of schools down to eight," Shepherd told Jayhawk Slant. "Narrowing my list of schools was very tough and all of the schools recruiting me, basketball wise, were pretty good schools. Any of the schools could have helped me a lot, but I think that I made the best choices with my remaining schools.
"The eight schools remaining are Kansas, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas ,Oklahoma, Marquette, SMU, and LSU," he added. "I just felt most comfortable with these schools. All the schools are pretty much close to home, so that's one of the reasons why I picked these schools."
Shepherd, who transferred to Grace Prep in Arlington, Texas, last year, was forced to miss the entire season due to transfer rules. However, that didn't stop many of the top programs from across the United States from courting the four-star center. Now that his list of schools has been trimmed to a manageable number, the next step in the process is to get out and take some visits.
Having already visited Kansas once, Shepherd made it clear that a return trip to Lawrence will definitely take place.
"I'll probably have some visits coming up," he said. "I don't know where I'm going to visit and I haven't talked about that yet. I should know more about that next week. I know that I'll get back up to Kansas for a visit, but I just don't know when. I do plan to take some visits and I'll know more about those visits next week."

"Kansas is a great school," he said. "I took a visit to Kansas last summer and it's a great campus and the coaches treat the players at Kansas very well. I talk to all of the coaches at Kansas. My relationship with the coaching staff is good and I like those guys."
