On Friday evening, Kansas coach Turner Gill spoke to the media at the KU Pep Rally in Prairie Village.
Gill on why Kale Pick was named the starter:
He proved over a consistent basis that he is consistent in not turning the ball over. He had great demeanor and great body language during scrimmages. Also, Jordan Webb did some good things too so it's not like it was a big runaway with it but we felt like it was the right time. Kale deserved it and earned it.
Gill on Keeston Terry's move to defensive back from wide receiver:
We feel pretty strong about our wide receivers at this time. We didn't want to waste eligibility at a spot that he wouldn't get a lot of time at. We need some help on the defensive side of the ball. He may play or he may not play but we want to get him evaluated and he has already impressed us in the first two days that he has been on the defensive side.
Gill on what Toben Opurum was missing at running back that got him moved to linebacker:
It's not what he was missing but more about what the other guys did. They stood out more than him and made some plays and did some things better than he did. We felt like right now we needed to make some moves and we cannot get all those guys reps in practice so we need to get those two or three guys we feel confident in at this point to help our football team to move forward.
Gill on how the practices have changed this week:
We just got more guys getting more reps in practice that we think will play in the games. It can still change, there is no question about that but right now we do have to settle down and get ready to play on September the 4th.
Gill on the fans showing up to the event despite the rain:
It is exciting, sometimes during gamedays you are going to have rain and the fans will still be out supporting you and this is a great example of people coming out no matter what the weather conditions are. People are excited about KU football and we will give them a product that they will be excited about for a long time.
Gill on difference in the fan support than in Buffalo:
It is no question different than being in Buffalo. There the Buffalo Bill were the number one thing while the Sabres were number two and college football was an after thought. I know people here are very passionate about the University of Kansas and I can speak of my own daughter. She is very passionate about it and so are all the fans. I am excited to be apart of this all.
