Henry named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

Jacob Pullen (Kansas State) and Xavier Henry (Kansas) have been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of December 7-13 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first career honor for Pullen and second straight week Henry has won the rookie accolade.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Pullen averaged 22.0 points as Kansas State extended its win streak to six games with victories over Xavier (71-56) and at No. 18/17 UNLV (95-80). The junior guard connected on 48.1 percent (13-of-27) of his shots, including 9-of-17 (.529) from 3-point range. He started the week by scoring 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half against the Musketeers in 24 minutes of action. Pullen then followed with 28 points versus the nationally-ranked Rebels, including a career-best 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. The seven 3-pointers tied for the fourth-most in school history. Pullen also had seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in his two outings, while connecting on 9-of-14 from the free throw line.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:

Xavier Henry, Kansas, G, Fr., 6-6, 220, Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City

Henry wins the award for the second time after helping No. 1 Kansas defeat Radford (99-64) and La Salle (90-65). The freshman guard averaged 22.0 points and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 62.5 percent (15-of-24). The top performance came versus La Salle, as he exploded for 31 points on 10-of-15 shooting versus the Explorers. It was the first 30-point game by a KU freshman since Paul Pierce reached the mark versus East Tennessee State on Jan. 6, 1998. Henry also totaled seven rebounds, three assists, four blocks and four steals in the two contests. He has led the Jayhawks in scoring five times this season.
