The Jayhawks have continued their trend of offering more players in the state than any other school. On Wednesday afternoon they informed Bishop Miege wide receiver Jafar Armstrong he had a scholarship offer.

Kansas defensive coordinator Clint Bowen told Bishop Miege head coach Jon Holmes they were extending an offer. Shortly after that Armstrong called Bowen to get the official news.

“It’s exciting because they’re the hometown school,” Armstrong said. “I’m ecstatic to get the offer.”

It has been an ongoing process with Kansas and Armstrong. The Jayhawks have signed several players from Bishop Miege over the last five years and they were well aware of Armstrong.

“I’ve been on KU’s campus three times and I’m glad they decided to pull the plug and give me an offer,” Armstrong said. “I couldn’t be more thankful.”

Two weeks ago Bowen was at Bishop Miege to talk with Holmes about Armstrong. Holmes, who spoke at the KU Coaching Clinic two months ago believes Armstrong has the talent to play in the Big 12.

“He can line up in the slot or on the outside,” Holmes said. “He can beat you vertically or underneath and he can go up and get the ball. He attracts so much attention from the defense. It shows they (KU) want to do well with kids in Kansas. I know the rankings just came out and he is in the top five. To me it shows they are sticking to their word and recruiting local players.”

Armstrong broke on the scene as a sophomore when he had over 200 yards in the state title game. Holmes said he took over the game in the third quarter and his recruiting attention rose shortly after that.

The Jayhawks join Illinois, Northern Illinois, New Mexico, and Wyoming as schools who have offered the all-state wide receiver.
