Jayhawks get visits from Corione Harris, Devonta Jason

This weekend Kansas got unofficial visits from two of their highest recruits on the commitment list. Both Devonta Jason (better known as Whop) and Corione Harris were in Lawrence to watch the West Virginia and see the coaches and players. Their visit stayed under wraps until Saturday.

It was good timing for their arrival since they showed up at halftime. The Jayhawks played their best quarter of the season when the two arrived. Kansas was trailing big at half but cut West Virginia’s lead to one score in the third quarter.

“It was a great trip,” Jason said. “One of the things that stood out were the new areas in the stadium behind both of the end zones.”

Jason was referring to the new Field Goal Club seating that was installed prior to the season.

The Jayhawks have built up a pipeline into Louisiana with assistant Tony Hull. Harris said it was good to see a lot of those faces again that he knows from his hometown.

“It felt great to be back,” Harris said. “I got to hang out with everybody. One of the things that stood out to me was how the team is coming together.”

The players said they spent time with Mike Lee, Malik Clark, Tyriek Starks, Daylon Charlot, Travis Jordan, and Takulve Williams all current KU players from Louisiana. Also in the group of players they were with included JJ Holmes and Antione Frazier.

They had an opportunity to be around head coach David Beaty and Hull, who is the lead recruiter in the New Orleans area.

“Coach Beaty talked about the process and how much he is looking forward to the future,” Harris said.

“They talked to me about next year and that my role would be big for KU,” Jason said of talking to Beaty and Hull.

The Landry-Walker prospects are rated among the best at their positions. Harris, a four-star corner is ranked the 11th best in the country. Jason, a five-star receiver, is rated the fourth best in the nation.

Both players got to see the new drawings for the $300 million renovation on the way to Memorial Stadium. On Sunday morning they met with academic advisors on campus and also got to see where the new athletic dorms will be.

Jason and Harris will return later in the fall for their official visits.
