Once the Kansas coaches found out about Quan Hampton they locked onto him quickly. The Jayhawks put Hampton on their radar in early December and stayed on him from that day until his official visit.

Kansas quarterbacks coach Garrett Riley was the lead recruiter for Hampton.

“Coach Riley was recruiting at some other schools and heard about me from them,” Hampton said. “He’s a cool dude in straight up. He’s already been down to see me like three times and has told me a lot about KU.”

Riley heard opposing coaches give Hampton rave reviews so he made his way to Texarkana High to take a closer look. The relationship grew and that led to Hampton taking an official visit to Lawrence this weekend.

After the visit was almost over Hampton met with Kansas head coach David Beaty and said he was ready to be a Jayhawk.

“When I told him he was excited and I was excited,” Hampton said. “I think he was a little more excited than I was.”

Hampton was the District 16 Offensive MVP and is a two-time, all-district selection. He was also an all-district pick in basketball.

The coaching staff is one thing that stood out to him on the visit.

“I really liked the coaching staff from the time I got there,” Hampton said. “I wondered if they were always like that and when I met with the players they told me they were.”

The new facility upgrades inside the Anderson Family Football Complex also caught his attention.

“Everything was nice,” he said. “They’re also getting new dorms. The facilities were off the chain. Everything is close and in the same location.”

Hampton who has a 40-inch vertical jump set schools records at Texarkana in receptions, receiving yards, and most receptions in a game.
