When Kansas head coach David Beaty hired Tony Hull to be his running backs coach it didn’t take long to realize they wanted to recruit Louisiana. Hull, who was the head coach at Warren Easton, has landed his first recruit in less than a month on the job.

The Jayhawks picked up a commitment this morning from Travis Jordan, a three-star prospect from John Ehret High in Marrero, La.

“I went in and had a talk with coach Beaty,” Jordan said. “That’s when I told him I was going to commit to Kansas. I have taken other visits and I just felt with Kansas coaches like I didn’t with any other staff. They all felt like family and kept it real.”

Hull started recruiting Jordan in his first few days after joining the Jayhawks staff. Jordan developed a good relationship with Hull and likes the fact he is from Louisiana and knows the region.

“It feels good to know he comes from the same area as me,” Jordan said of Hull. “He sees someone like me who wants to make it out. He has made it a good experience and was a big part in me committing. I have a good relationship with him and he showed me a lot of good things on my visit.”

During Jordan’s visit he had a chance to spend time around a lot of the coaches. Although he is listed as an athlete the Jayhawks recruited him to play receiver. He also had the opportunity to meet with receivers coach Jason Phillips.

“He’s (Phillips) a great guy,” Jordan said. “He was another coach I was very comfortable with. He was amazed when he watched my film. He likes my speed, my hop, and acceleration. They also said they liked my height and aggressiveness.”

Jordan didn’t know he was going to commit on his visit until he saw what the Jayhawks had to offer. He said Lawrence is a different place than what recruits from Louisiana perceive it to be. Jordan mentioned he is already talking to other players in the area about what he saw on his trip.

“There has been a lot going through my mind,” he said. “This will be another chapter in my life. It feels great. I have already been talking to some other players about going to Kansas.”
