The Kansas coaches have identified a quarterback and are making a fast push at Vic Viramontes.

As a high school prospect coming out Norco High in California, Viramontes was a three-star prospect who had offers from several schools including Michigan, Cal, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Utah, and Colorado.

He committed to Michigan then made the switch to Cal. He signed with the Bears and enrolled when Sonny Dykes was the head coach. After Dykes was let go at Cal Viramontes enrolled at Riverside Community College.

He has helped Riverside jump off to a 6-0 start this season and put up big numbers through the air and on the ground. Viramontes has thrown for 1019 yards and rushed for another 800. He has accounted for 26 touchdowns.

He recently picked up an offer from Kansas where there is a unique tie to the program. Kansas defensive line coach Jesse Williams played with Viramontes father at Rubidoux High.

“I've been talking to coach Williams,” Viramontes said. “We’ve built a relationship and got to know one another. He also came down to RCC to talk to me.”

The Kansas coaches evaluated Viramontes film and knew about him. His style of game fit what they are looking for in a quarterback.

“The coaches said they love how tough I am,” he said. “They love how I can extend plays with my legs as well.”

Since Viramontes has already been through the recruiting process once, he wants to make sure he is making the right decision this time around.

“Most important is finding a fit where I can get a fair shot to show my abilities and compete,” he said.

Viramontes said he plans to take an official visit to Kansas.
