Liam Jones decides on Kansas after visit
Before Liam Jones took an unofficial visit to Kansas he wasn’t sure if he was going to make a decision. Once he got on campus and met with the Kansas coaches his feelings quickly changed.
“From the second that I arrived there I could tell there was a different atmosphere about it,” Jones said. “I liked how energetic everything was. We ate at Jefferson’s on Mass Street and that was awesome. You can’t beat an atmosphere like that.”
Jones got an opportunity in the summer to work out with Kansas special teams coordinator Joe DeForest. Choctaw High hosted a camp this summer where Jones spent a lot of time showing DeForest what he could do as a kicker.
The visit to Kansas gave Jones and his father, Adam, a chance to see more of the coaching staff and campus.
“Every single person on the staff that I met today whether it was a coach or a person working around KU athletics all had great character and treated me really nice,” Jones said. “It made me feel really welcomed and that’s something I wanted to be a part of.”
Jones left early in the evening because Choctaw had a 6 a.m. practice. Before he left he told the coaches he wanted to be a part of the Jayhawks program.
Being from Oklahoma he also knew the history and resume DeForest has built as a special team’s coach.
“He has so much history behind his name,” Jones said of DeForest. “He coached at Oklahoma State and coached Dan Bailey who won the Lou Groza award. It would be an honor to be coached by him.”
Jones ranks among top kickers in the nation

Liam is an excellent kicker. The lefty has a strong leg and kicks with outstanding consistency. He is smooth and kicks with great technique. His field goals are a major strength. Liam's kickoffs are strong and near the top of his class. He drives the ball well and gets solid hang time. Also a dependable punter. He competes well under pressure. He has the tools to be great at the next level. Liam has a bright college future ahead of him. Look for him to pick up scholarship offers. Excellent prospect.
