The Kansas players are winding down their final week of summer school and conditioning and get ready for the grind of fall camp next week.

All of the players have said positive things about the summer conditioning program under new strength and conditioning coach Zac Woodfin. As the final days wind down they are ready to compete for starting jobs.

“This is the best team I have been around in terms of motivation,” said returning linebacker Joe Dineen. “We have all worked really hard. We all have the same goal coming in and we expect to win. The upperclassmen on the team haven’t really got a chance to experience that as much. So this is really like a now or never thing, so we’re doing everything we can to win games.”

Returning defensive lineman Daniel Wise has been in the Jayhawks program for four years now and believes it is trending in a positive manner.

“I feel like it is going in the right direction,” Wise said. “I’m sure that sounds repetitive and others have said that. I’m not the only one that can see it and feel it. This will be my third season playing and the fourth in the program. I have seen different environments and the locker room change. I have seen the player’s coach Beaty is bringing in and we are getting more scholarship guys because of the issue that he had.”

In the end the team knows they are going to be judged on wins and losses and not always if the program is going in the right direction. They believe the pieces are in place for more victories.

“I believe we’re going in the right direction,” said defensive end Dorance Armstrong. “We still have a lot of room to improve. We all believe we have the ability to win more games than we have.”
