QA with Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
On Tuesday afternoon, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk met with the media for the first time since returning from a trip home. Jayhawk Slant has the very latest.
Question: When did you get back?
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk: I got back yesterday at about 8:00 p.m. The flight is actually around one day, so it was tough.
Question: What do you do on an airplane for an entire day?
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk: I try to sleep, but it was uncomfortable and there was not enough space for my knees.
Question: What did you do while you were at home?
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk: I was working out a lot. I was trying to prepare for next season, which is very important for me. I was just working out at home. I worked out at my gym and I was with my team. Most of the stuff I was doing was individual stuff.
Question: Is there something you really wanted to do when you got home?
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk: I missed my parents and friends, so I just spent time with my parents and then went and chilled with my friends. I went downtown with my friends and worked out with my team.
Question: What are you working to improve upon this next season?
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk: I'm trying to develop everything. I'm trying to get better at some of my weaknesses and get stronger. I try to go to the weight room more than anybody else.
Question: What's the different between the game in Europe and here in the states?
SM: The game here is not like the game in Europe. Here, it's like every four minute it stops, so you get a rest every four minutes. So with all the media timeouts, it's not that tough.
Question: Will you be able to attend the World Games with your teammates?
SM: I probably won't go to the world games with my teammates (Kansas). I'll probably be here working out.
Question: What's your area of focus when you're working out with Andrea Hudy?
SM: When I'm working out with Hudy, most of the time I focus on my upper body, because my lower body is a little bit stronger. I focus a lot on my upper body when I'm working out with Hudy. Squats, bench, incline are some of the things I'm doing to improve my upper body strength.
Question: How long were you at home?
SM: I was back home for one month. Yes, I needed to go back home. I needed the rest and stuff.
Question: How much weight have you added since you got to Kansas?
SM: I've put on 15 or 16 pounds since I got to Kansas. Right now, I weight 205. I think between 207 and 210 would be the perfect weight.
Question: What is your goal for next season?
SM: I'm not just going to shoot three-pointers. I'll try to do whatever Coach Self needs from me.
Question: As you prepare for your sophomore year, do you feel more comfortable?
SM: Yes, because I'm getting older . I'm not a freshman, and that was a great experience for me. I've been in the system and I think I'll feel more comfortable next year.
Question: Have you grown any?
SM:Yes, I think that I've grown. I'm probably around 6-foot-7 or 6-foot-8.
