The Kansas coaching staff set the recruiting season up for a big finish. Several of the committed recruits were scheduled to visit for the final weekend before signing day.

It was a way to wrap up the class and show the future signees a good weekend wrapped around the Kentucky basketball game.

During the visit two of the headliners in the class had a chance to finally meet up. Maciah Long and Kyle Mayberry had talked and organized things over social media during the season. They had recruiting chats for the committed players and top targets the Kansas coaches were looking at.

Both Long and Mayberry made visits to Lawrence before but this was the first chance they had to meet. Last weekend gave them a chance to meet each other and spend time around their future teammates.

“I have a great vibe with those guys,” Long said. “I’ve been talking to Kyle Mayberry for a while. It was good to get around him and I like him as a person. It was good to be around other guys like Evan, Ian, Isaiah, Antione and all of those guys. I can already see it is going to be good building a relationship and being around those guys.”

Mayberry and Long are two players expected to sign in Wednesday who could have a chance to play on defense right away. Mayberry has been active talking with recruits during the season and spreading the word about Kansas. So much was done over social media he was glad to finally see some of his teammates face-to-face.

“It felt like we were already in college together,” Mayberry said of the group. “It was good getting a chance to be around them and they are great people. Me and Ian (Peterson) have already built a strong relationship. Me and Maciah had a good time and it was great meeting him because we have a lot of the same personality. It was just a great feeling and real comfortable.”
