Starks set to announce college choice

Tyriek Starks has been planning to take his last official visit this coming weekend. Starks initially said he decided to visit Georgia Southern, who won 10 games this year and played in a bowl game. But those plans could be on hold.

“I am going to announce my decision on Tuesday evening,” Starks said.

Starks said his top three right now are Georgia Southern, Tulane, and Kansas in no order. He just returned from his Kansas visit on Sunday. Kansas head coach David Beaty visited Warren Easton last Thursday and offered Starks a scholarship.

“Coach Beaty told me before the visit it was a good campus,” Starks said. “But once I got there I realized it was a terrific campus. We went to the basketball game against Texas and the atmosphere with the fans was crazy. I went to an LSU football game and it was a similar experience. I loved my visit.”

Beaty personally has been leading the recruiting efforts for Starks. He spent a good portion of the day evaluating Starks last week along with assistant Kenny Perry.

“The entire staff is down to earth and they treat you like family,” Starks said. “You want that in a coaching staff. Some of the coaches I have been around on other staffs barely know your name. When I went to Kansas they knew who I was before I even walked in the door. I just felt a lot of love from the coaching staff.”

Kansas safety Greg Allen was the host for Starks. Allen was born in New Orleans so the two had something in common. Starks said he asked Allen what the transition from Houston to Kansas was like.

“He said he fell in love with the place,” Starks said.

Starks led Warren Easton to the state semi-finals before losing to Neville the eventual champion. Starks threw for close to 4500 yards and rushed for another 1000. He has offers from Kansas, Central Florida, Tulane, New Mexico State, Kent State, Georgia Southern, and several others.
