Kansas Head Football Coach Turner Gill has announced his first two signees for the Jayhawk football program as Dave Clark and Quinn Mecham both recently signed letters to attend KU. Both players will enroll this spring.
"We are excited to have both of these player join our program," Gill said. "They are both outstanding talents and we expect them to challenge for starting jobs right away."
Clark is a 6-2, 197-pound cornerback, who most recently attended Independence (Kan.) Community College. Clark sat out the 2009 season due to injury, but was a second-team all-conference selection as a freshman in 2008.
In his one year of junior college, he made 27 tackles, recorded two interceptions and forced one fumble in nine games.
Clark, who is from Baton Rouge, La., was an all-state first-team selection as a prep senior at Capitol High School. He registered 51 tackles, seven interceptions and 13 passes broken up his final year.
Mecham is a 6-3, 205-pound quarterback from Snow (Utah) Junior College. He was named second-team all-conference as both a freshman and sophomore. This past season he completed 202 of 323 passes for 3,091 yards, 40 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
He led the Badgers to a 10-2 record, a national ranking of fifth and was named conference offensive player of the week three times. His 257 passing yards per game ranked fifth in the nation.
As a freshman, Mecham guided Snow to an 11-0 record and a league championship. He played in 10 games and was 128 of 213 passing for 1,851 yards, 25 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
Twice in his junior college career he was named the national player of the week.
Mecham was a Class 4A all-state selection as a senior at Timpview (Utah) High School in 2007 while leading his team to the state championship for the second straight season.
