Williams was a big get for KU

Josh Williams was able to take advantage of a rule that allows a player to graduate and move to another school without sitting out. Once college coaches found out Williams was on the market his phone started to ring a lot.
Williams is the type of player that could help a lot of a BCS programs, but his recruiting attention didn't grab a lot of media attention.

"I played it pretty low and didn't do any interviews," Williams said. "I have already been through the recruiting process in high school and didn't want to do all that again. I just wanted to find a school and get there to play football."
In high school Williams was the 12th ranked defensive end coming out of Denton Ryan High. He had scholarship offers from Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Missouri, Arkansas, and others. He signed with Nebraska.
The last two seasons Williams played in all 26 games for the Cornhuskers which featured a talented and deep defensive line rotation. Williams didn't want to mention the specifics on the schools that recently recruited him but said there were a lot.
He took a visit to Lawrence after signing day to check out campus. Williams was familiar with the city because he took an official visit to Kansas in high school. This time there were new facilities.
"It was pretty cool," he said. "I was impressed with the facilities. They were starting to build them when I went on my visit in high school. I know D.J. Beshears real well so he showed me around. He introduced me to some of the guys and I could see they want to win."
Williams has already been through the recruiting process once so he knew what he was looking for this time around. Two of the biggest reasons for choosing Kansas were Charlie Weis and Dave Campo.
"Those are the two coaches I went to see," Williams said. "Those two have a lot of experience. I like coach Weis because he tells you what is on his mind. Sometimes you need to hear what you don't want to hear. I like how honest and straight-forward he is. I was excited to be around coach Campo. He has a great history and background. He's a great guy and had me fired up."
During his visit he spent a lot of time around Toben Opurum and Keba Agostinho. He liked what he heard from the two defensive players and knew Kansas was the place he wanted to be.
"It's in the Big 12 and I know about the conference," Williams said. "I've been getting after it and ready to get back in a team environment. I want to be a leader and see how far we can take it. I'm motivated and will work hard to have a great senior year. I did some good things last year (at Nebraska). Hopefully I can help these guys take it to another level."
