Raytown (MO) cornerback Dontae Manning made the trip to Lawrence on Saturday for the Kansas Jayhawks first Junior Day of the new recruiting year. Accompanied by teammates Joe Campbell and Dvontae Key, the three-star prospect gave his time on Mount Oread high marks.

"The visit was amazing," Manning said of his time at KU. "I got to meet some incredible people and enjoy myself, making it feel like a home away from home."

After earning Second Team Class 5 All-State honors last season, the Bluejays standout is one of the top prospects in Kansas City from the class of 2020. The talented defender met with Les Miles during his visit, and he came away impressed with the national champion head coach.

"I actually got pulled from the basketball game to go have a little meeting with him," Manning said of his time with Miles. "He talked about how he loved my game, and that KU would be the perfect fit for me."

"It was very amazing," he continued. "Just knowing how great he is, and how he is bringing positive energy to the team. It just felt amazing."

Manning also spent time watching film and discussing techniques with defensive back coach Chevis Jackson and safeties coach Clint Bowen. Shortly after leaving the KU campus, the 6-foot, 180-pound junior hinted that the Jayhawks had made a strong impression on him.

"Yes I would," Manning said if he would consider KU a serious option for him. "After talking to all the coaching staff."

As he continues making unofficial visits, the talented CB will likely travel to Notre Dame or Oklahoma later this month. Asked what he's looking for in a potential home, Manning described a unique connection with his future coaching staff.

"Having a bond stronger than football," he said of what he hopes to find with through the recruiting process. "Me being able to leave the college and come back to a family of staff."
