When the Texas all-state class 5A teams were announced Kansas commit Dominic Williams was front and center on the first team.

Williams who rushed for over 1900 yards was one of three running backs selected along with Eno Benjamin.

“It is an honor because only a few get picked for all-state,” Williams said. “They only chose three running backs so it is a special accomplishment.”

It also had special meaning because Williams used to hear people say the only reason he put up video game type numbers was the fact he was playing at a private school. So it meant something extra to be named to the team after transferring to Frisco Independence his senior year.

“It means something because last year when I was in private school people were saying that is why I was putting up big yards,” Williams said. “And it means a lot to go to a public school and show that I can do the same.”

Williams finished his high school career ranked 10th on the all-time rushing list in Texas. Looking back that was four years of playing varsity and carrying the ball a lot more than most running backs do in a high school career.

He has been spending time getting back in shape and letting his body rest. Williams had his choice of national all-star games to play in, including the O-D All American Bowl, Blue-Gray Game, and the Semper Fi All-American game.

“My focus has been getting back to 100% for when I get to college,” he said. “When I get there I know the trainers will get me stronger and faster. I’m just getting ready for college right now. I have been training with my trainer.”

Williams has also been trying to play the role of recruiter. His teammate Jason Moore recently received an offer from the Jayhawks. Moore, an offensive lineman, has been picking up a lot of interest lately.

“He’s really smart and he is young,” Williams said. “He just turned 17 and he started playing football a little later than everyone else. This year he completely took off. He is talented and has size. I’m trying to get him to come upon an official with me on the 20th. But he would have to cancel his official visit to Baylor that weekend.”
