The Kansas coaching staff had several quality prospects on campus last month at their football camps. One of the most impressive recruits came on the local front in Charlie Woleben.

The defensive end from De Soto High showed good athleticism and has a frame that will continue to develop. After showcasing his abilities at the camp in June, Woleben picked up his second Power Five offer from the Jayhawks.

“It was a really good experience,” Woleben said about the camp. “All the coaches are really on top of things. They're really hands on. I got a lot of good coaching out of it.”

Kansas coaches Taiwo Onatolu and Jim Panagos worked with Woleben during the camp. Onatolu coaches the defensive ends and Panagos the defensive tackles for the Jayhawks.

“Coach (Onatolu) said he likes my athleticism,” Woleben said. “He also just likes my hustle and that I'm working to make the play.”

Woleben returned to Lawrence several days after the camp. He attended a barbeque event hosted by the coaches featuring several of the top 2025 prospects in the region.

“That was a really cool experience,” he said. “I got to see the facilities, talk more with Onatolu, and review what he wants to see from me. We talked about what I would need to do if I joined the program. We got dressed up and also did a photo shoot.”

His first offer came from Nebraska after his camp performance.

“It was also really cool to get that offer,” he said. “It was my first, so I was just in shock and surprised by it. It was just amazing also.”

Woleben is off to a good start picking up two offers and getting a lot of interest from other programs. At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds he has a lean frame and will continue to add strength. There will be more scholarship offers in the future and he has enjoyed the early recruiting experience.

“It's just been a really cool experience,” he said. “It's just amazing just to get to this point. Being a Kansas kid, playing football for the high school to get an offer from places like KU and Nebraska is just amazing.”

Woleben said he wanted to rest in July and work out with his high school team. With it being a dead month, he is getting ready for his junior season.

“I'm mostly done with my camps at this point,” he said. “I'm just going to relax, probably try and go on vacation with my family, spend time with my family and continue my high school workouts.”
